I have just seen the date of my last blog and was gob smacked at the time frame in between. So many things have happened, (goodthings), (badthings) and some, (notsogoodthings)and (notsobadthings).

Firstly, the Perth Glory...now that's a (goodthing), 8 games without a loss, (goodthing), sadly our boy Lewis Italiano has been keeping the bench warm all this season, (notsogood), apart from the occasional game with the Perth Glory Youth,(notsobad). I hear today he is going back to the youth team, (notsobad), as the contracted 2nd keeper, Neil Young, is back fit and raring to go, (goodthing for Neil), (notsogood for Lewis). But it means Lewis will get game time and be seen wearing WarbyGK Gloves in a game, not just in warm up. (goodthing). All over the country. (goodthing)

Nick Munro, Hyundai A-League keeper for Adelaide Utd, has joined the ranks of the WarbyGK Sponsored Keepers Australia Stable, (goodthing). Nick has taken a shine to the Superior Patriots, (goodthing) and has been moved from the youth team to the bench for the 1st team, (goodthing).

More (goodthings, badthings, notsobadthings and notsogoodthings)

Responceball, (goodthing), has hit the shores of WA, many thanks to Glenn Robertson and Responceball. (goodthing). So far we have 4 GK coaches using them, (goodthing). Jonathon Gould, Perth Glory GK Coach, (goodthing), Roy Hunter, PFT Academy in Victoria, (goodthing), Mark Askew, Top Flight GK Academy in Queensland (goodthing) and Neil Tate, SASI GK Coach in South Australia, (goodthing). Apart from that, we also have something for the Netball Community, (goodthing). Netball WA, (goodthing), has now picked up on the Responceball Netball, (notsobadthing). It will happen. watch this space.(notsobadthing).

Lastly, (goodthing). This weekend, Jetts World Sports Expo is happening at the the Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre.(notsobadthing). On show will be WarbyGK Gloves, (goodthing), Responseball, (goodthing) and SMINE Products complete range of work, sport, promotional clothing and items. (greatthing)...opps sorry, forgot that one. :)

For those who want to see or hear the (badthings) and (notsogoodthings)...maybe next time.

I never kiss and tell...

Till next time..keep your sheets clean :). (its keeper talk)

P.S. Kerri Gilbert, (goodthing), SMINE Products lady in the Territory, is back on deck...she needed a break, a long break, (notsogoodthing). So for all your work clothing and promotional needs in the Northern Territory, IT'S SMINE,via Kerri, (goodthing)...nah (greatthing). Thanks Kerri, your blood is worth bottling (greatthing)

I know I am looking for all three this year. Especially the Wealth. What with two teenage birthdays and Xmas all within 4 weeks of each other, both the wallet and bank account have taken a hammering as per usual this time of the year. Business has been quiet lately and that needs to seriously looked at to make it happen again. But there are some big things in the pipeline that will hopefully kick start a huge resergence for SMINE Products in 2012. So fingers crossed

The Health, yes a bit more of that to. The first part is to loose 10kg's in the next 30 days. Firstly give up the booze for the next month, get back into walking and sort out some pre seaon training with a local club. Yes, the boots and the gloves are coming back on again this year. Why not, I may be 51, but thats doesn't mean I have to give it all away. The body has its moments, but its still sound, well, as sound as a 51 yo body can be I suppose :) Only time will tell, pre season will let me one way or the other. The head says yes, so does the heart, so two outta three aint bad. Will be changing clubs though. Have a local one just down the road, so closer to home, down a division, so less expectations from others. But will still be competitive, which is alway an important factor.

Happiness, well, we all want that dont we. But its the level of happiness that is the $65000 question. Ok, my level of happiness, starts with the above happening. Health and Weath. Love? I hear you ask. Well for those of you who dont know, I am single, so I guess Love is the most obvious question. I have the love of my children. That was shown to me over the Christmas period when they were all staying with me. That for me was very fulfilling, especially when as teenagers, they are wanting to go off and do their own things with their freinds. Mine wanted to spend the whole week with me. So there is a show of love, which made my year, not to mention made me very happy. Yes there is another happiness I would like to acheive, but I dont know you well enough to share that. Well not yet anyway, maybe one day.

May the year be great for all of you, remember if at any stage, you require any promotional items or clothing for either your work place or sporting club/team. If you want it... IT'S SMINE

Till next time.

Thursday, 7 days to go

Hi everyone, why the heading as it is it? Well for the answer to that is that there is 7 days to go and my eldest child turns the magical 18. I remember when I turned 18, haha just. I walked into my local pub armed with my drivers licence, birth certificate and passport. Just in case I was stopped and asked for ID. Problem was, I had been gong there since I was 16 and most of the staff, including management already knew that I had been going in there underage. So I never had to produce it. Bugga..

Anyway my boy is having a nice quiet BBQ around my place with select friends. Yes, he has put in out on FB, but being the good media user that he is, he has made it a private invite only and instructions to all his mates that it is by invite only. Not come one, come all. Again its amazing how the times change, where respect for people and other people property has gone out the door. You see the news stories about, what starts out as a private party, 18th or 21st, next thing you know its a full blow rave with 300 people that require the police, in numbers, to sort out. Worse thing is, the kids who cause the problem in the first don't care, they think its fun!!!!! Ah well, Karma can be a bitch at times. :)

Troy aged 4 hehehehe

Anyway, enough of that...SMINE Products news. New page on the website with pictures of some of the goalkeepers here in Australia and Indonesia wearing WarbyGK gloves. I have added some footnotes as well (only cause I can ). The word has gone out to all the boys who I deal with directly to send me pics of themselves either in action or just posing with their kit on. So by the start of the new year we will have quite a rogues gallery on the page. The photos are not in any order, so don't think some are more important than others. I treat them all with the same respect, as they are all keepers and all wear WarbyGK Gloves. We keepers, are a special breed of footballer. A little bit out there, love attention, great choosers of clothing, (some not so good),good organisational skills (some better than others), but above all, we are all slightly mad. For instance, you wont see an outfield player diving at someone's feet with arms extended, head perilously close to the ball, which in the blink of an eye could look like a football to the other player, so he takes a swing at it, nor would you see an outfield player diving to the left or right, knowing that there is a post , which if you get it wrong it, is going to hurt severely if you hit it. These are just two things amongst a load of others that makes keepers a breed of their own... I rest my case. Keepers are SPECIAL.

He not so short and cute looking now and I mean Troy, not me.

SMINE Products in the middle of Australia is going well. Kerri Gilbert, our girl up there, has been banging on doors and coming back with the orders. Clothing, promotional items, you name it. Kerri is off to spend Christmas with her family at the beginning of next week and she informs me that she will be knocking on doors over there as well. Got to love that. I thought I was the only one who took my work with me. Thanks for the all the hard work Kerri. Have a safe trip and I look forward to catching up early next year.

Kerri Gilbert, second from the left and the team from the Breast Cancer Awareness Golf Day in Alice Springs

Ok almost time to go out and get some real work done. But before I go, just to let everyone know that ARMANDO SPORTS in O'Connor in WA is now retailing the WarbyGK gloves. If your with a club or an actual football club that's wants to buy the gloves for your keepers. Go see Armando, he is offering his usual club discount with every purchase.

Have a great week and weekend everyone, catch up on all the gossip and let you know what's happening next week.

Christmas is almost here, which means joy and good will to most and I will leave it at that. (I am not a Christmas person at all). Good news is, I will have all my three wonderful children with me from the 22nd Dec to the 30th Dec.

I think I mentioned last time about my eldest daughter turning 16 last month. Well on the 22nd of this month, my eldest, Troy, turns the magical 18. Well it was magical for us, way way back, at the time, not to sure about this generation. Ha ha. He and I have decided that we will have a small quiet BBQ at my place, special invite only from him. Which means no social media announcements. Personal invite only, which I applaud him for, immensely. I can handle 20 or 30 people...not 300, who, if you watch TV, have seen it on a social media site and decide to gate crash. Again, a sign of the times. Privacy, respect for others peoples lives and social gatherings, are a thing of the past to the current youth. There is a party at so and so's house, let go there and who cares if they didn't invite us. We will invite ourselves and get out of order if they dont want us there. Yeah...well I will get down off my soap box.

Last week, for all the right reasons, I was in Jakarta again, visiting WarbyGK endorsee, Aleks Vrteski, who starts a new season in the IPL tomorrow, with his new club, Persija Jakarta. Unfortunately, I didn't get to watch any games with him playing, but we did go down to Bandung and watched another ex Perth Glory and WA footballer, Robbie Gasper and his team Persib Bandubg play. I was amazed. I seem to remember telling you all about the last time I was in Jakarta and watching the National Indonesian team play in a World Cup qualifier. 80000 people. All one eyed for the home team on a national scale. well this was a little bit smaller, only 35000 people, inside the stadium. We estimated another 15000 outside, who for some reason or another couldn't get into the ground. Imagine if you can, an oval stadium. At either end, with no cover, about 7000 supporters per end. Under cover, in the middle of the stadium, about another 3000. The left hand side, singing and waving either their hands or scarves from left to right. Now, at the opposite side of the stadium, the exact thing is happening, except they are going from right to left. In the middle they are singing they same song...but under cover. Twice as loud as the two sides, but moving back to front. Then, they all change and do the opposite to each other again. It was amazing and I can only say, that you have to see it to believe it. Then at one stage, the whole crowd in unison singing a particular song, they all have cigarette lighters in their hands and flick them on. I spoke to Robbie Gasper afterwards and he was saying that even the players on the park nearly all stopped to watch it. Unbelievable. Then to top it off, there was the ride home, behind the team bus with a police escort. I have never before in my life, seen such adoration and hero worship from the supporters towards the players in that bus. If you have ever been to Indonesia, you will know what I am talking about, when I mention the motor bike riders. They are everywhere. But imagine if you can about 150 bikes, with two or even three people on them, following the bus on the way from the ground back to the club headquarters. Now, we have a police escort and all the road ahead has been cleared for the bus and us. At times we are up to 80ks per hour and they are with us all the way...phone cameras going off everywhere. Like I said, I have never seen anything like it before. But the passion for the club, the players and more importantly, the football, is unbelievable.

Lastly, before I go, we did secure another WarbyGK glove wearer over in Indonesia. Yandri Pitoy. An Indonesian GK who players for Persib Bandung. That gives us two professional keepers in Indonesia now. One, Aleks Vrteski, in the IPL and Yandri in the ISL. The love for the glove is growing.

Speaking of which, I have been given information that a European National keeper is also after a glove deal for WarbyGK. Will keep you posted.

Sorry, no pictures at this stage, but will have some for the next blog.

Big shout out to Lewis Italiano, Perth Glory #2, almost got a run on the park against Wellington Phoenix on Saturday. Great TV coverage from FoxSports on him warming up, showing him wearing his WarbyGK gloves. It was also his 21st birthday that day. What a great birthday present for him if he got a run.

It will happen Lewis...

If you want it... IT"S SMINE

Old Boys do it better

Hi All, back again from what can only be described as a very interesting 10 days in sometimes sunny and sometimes, not so sunny Adelaide. Was almost like being in Melbourne, 4 seasons in one day and then some. But all whinging aside, it was cool and overcast at the right times, when we were playing football. Football, did I say football..hahaha yes I did, Had a few one on ones with some old diehards who still insist calling it soccer or wogball, when that happens I just shut up and usually walk away. Usually. A couple of times though, I dug my heels in, and recounted the origins of the game, but most times it wont get you anywhere except angry and frustrated, you only get yourself all worked up over nothing except peoples ignorance about the WORLD GAME. Originally called Association Football. Will leave it at that. :-)

Yes 10 days in Adelaide, 6 of them playing football in the Australian Masters. Total of 8 games all up, including two in one day. (We are tough), it was supposed to be three, but the second game we were supposed to play, the other team forfeited, only to come out 4 hours later and still have to play us. Go figure. Didn't matter, we still beat them. :-)

Anyway we played all of our games, lost 1 and won 7 including the play off for the gold medal. We scored 14 goals and conceded 4 and had 3 clean sheets. So all in all a great campaign. Also taking into account that all the boys in the squad are all over 55 (gks, the exception) and we played in a 50+ competition. I can honestly say without peeing in any bodies pocket, these boys are some of the best footballers I have had the pleasure of playing with. In their younger days they would have outshone in all the competitions they played in. Both as individuals and on the same team I thank them from the bottom of my heart, for allowing me to play in the same squad as them. Canberra Old Boys. I thank you. PS, they asked me if I wanted to go to the Gold Coast next year for the Pan Pac games followed by Turin, in Italy in 2014 for the next World Masters. Thank you boys. That's a yes to both.

Canberra Old Boys in Adelaide.

I mentioned before I went away, that there is some movement over in Indonesia with the WarbyGK Gloves. Firstly we still have Aleks Vrteski wearing them over there and now in the next couple of months we are about to sign the Indonesian #2 keeper to the brand. He has worn them and finds them exactly what he wants in a great glove. So there will be huge demand for them in Indo very very soon. You have to go there to understand how fanatical they really are about their teams and players.

Lewis Italiano, our number 1 keeper here in WA, had his first call up for the Perth Glory 1st team over the weekend. Well down Lewis, well deserved. So WarbyGK gloves were on display at AAMI Stadium last night. Glory won the game 2-1. Lewis pictured below.

Tom Dixon, who we featured last blog, has just been signed for Bayswater for the 2012 season, which is not all that far away. Congratulation to you Tom. WarbyGK Gloves in the State Premier League with another new keeper for another season.

Above: Tom Dixon.

On last mention before I go, Aleks Vrteski is back in Perth for a short stay, he is playing in the Ethnic World Cup, currently being played in Perth. He is playing for Macadonia. I have also been asked to play for the same country, but at the vets level. hahaha After the past week, the body still needs to recover, but, as it is widely quoted, a week in football is a long time..

Enjoy.... :)

Each of us for their own reasons. My eldest daughter, because she will officially be able to come out and play with her friends and go to the Perth Royal Show. Her Chicken Pox confinement will be over. Mind you, she is not complaining about being stuck inside the house. Being with me for the past 5 days, she has watched season 1 to 4 of Burn Notice and has decided that when she finishes High School next year, she wants to become a spy, albeit a burnt one. She can tell me how to do a lot of of things. Most of them illegal, but, thats what happens when Magnum PI meets McGiver in the 21st century. hahaha. Awww she has also re designed my promo items display. Thank you Saskia. xo

Ok, next... Tom Dixon, I mentioned him in my last blog. New WarbyGK Glove wearer and been training with the Perth Glory Youth team, alongside Lewis Italiano, WarbyGK endorsee. Well, Tom played with the Glory Youth on the weekend. 5-0, so clean sheet and he loves the gloves. (#lovemywarbygkgloves) Next State Premier Season, look for the name Tom Dixon...Tom is destined for great things. Welcome aboard the WarbyGK Glove Train.
Ok, My turn. This weekend and for the next 10 days, off to Adelaide to play in the 13th Australasian Masters. my third in Adelaide, hopefully a better run than the last two efforts, but,we are there for the fun of it, not the win or lose scenario...hahaha (cough cough). Sorry, its the competitive nature in me. Hence the "Bring it on...' tag above

Not totally happy with the weekend fixtures. Opening round of the A-league...GET IN... Perth Glory V Adelaide UTD. Sounds great. GOOD SIDE. Both clubs have offered me tickets. BAD SIDE. I can't accept, because I will be in Adelaide and they are playing in Perth. But the following weekend, still in Adelaide and Adelaide UTD are playing Melbourne Victory. So, apart from seeing two great teams, not to mention Harry Kewell, will see if i can get to see the game and catch up with ex Perth Glory GK Tando Velaphi, now with Melbourne Victory. Has a great glove deal already, but loves the dark side, (WarbyGK Gloves)...hehe

Like I said, will still be in Adelaide, but as my own Masters game will be at 5.30 on the Friday, could be hard ask to see it. We are playing about a 45 minute drive from the stadium and will have to do the right things, will need to have a shower after my game and a light refreshment or two or more... 3 games in one day...I love my football and #lovemywarbygkgloves

Sneak preview of the Canberra Old Boys Strip. I have heard they usually wear under the radar, Bottle Green and Gold. We will be noticed, of that you can be assured. PS... I did not choose the colours, I just did it. haha

My two daughters start them today, well one does, the other has come down with chicken pox, so her's started last week. Finally at the ripe old age of 16 she has got them. Like most parents, her mum and myself use to hunt down her shcool friends when she was younger to see who had them, get her to play with them, but she never contracted them, until now. So confinment for the next week is on the agenda. Worse for her, the Royal Show starts this weekend Perth and she misses out. But on the other side of the coin, there's always next year.

Speaking of next year, or next season, the A-league season is almost kicking off and with the news from the east, that apart from Lewis Italiano, Perth Glory Youth Keeper being a WarbyGK Glove wearer, 4 other youth team keepers have come over from the dark side . Two from MVFC, One from Melb Heart. not forgetting GCUTD shot stopper, Tim Anderson.

Have also been informed that there is another two GK's very interested in the glove range and possible sponsorship deals. One from the East and the other from Indonesia. I wont say to much just yet, but I am excited about both prospects.

Last wednesday night I was speaking with a State Premier Leagure reserve keeper who has been training with The Glory Youth, he use to buy his gloves online from overseas, but since wearing a pair of WarbyGK Gloves in training a couple of times, he is now the proud owner of, not 1, but 4 pairs of gloves. Ranging from Pro-Superior Mega, Aqua and Patriot. He is very very keen on the new Optimum range and will be looking at them come the start of the new season, along with booking a 1st team spot with his club.

Next weekend, it is time to head off to Adelaide to participate in my third Australasion Masters. Hopefully with a little more success than my last two..haha..sorry, its the competitor in me coming out. Although I have seen the draw and in my age group, 50+, they are expecting us to play 8 full 90 minute games in 5 days. Yes...8 games in 5 days...3 on Friday with the finals on the Saturday, if we get through, which there is every likelyhood, as there is only 5 teams in our division. Madness, yes, especially at our age. I am glad I am the keeper who after those amount of games in that short space of time, will possibly be the only one left standing.

I got in trouble last week. I was in Alice Springs and was getting told off for not mentioning Kerri Gilbert, the young lady, that is working for SMINE Products in Alice Springs. Kerri is a local with a wealth of knowledge and contacts in the Alice, having lived there for 20 years and even owning and running a local pub up there for many years. Kerri has landed us 5 new clients in the past 3 weeks and through her, SMINE Products is sponsoring a team and a hole at the annual Breast Cancer Awareness Golf Day next month. We will find out how she and the went and let you all know. Hopefully she will have some pics to send me that we can post here for you.

Have a great weekend and remember...If you want it...IT'S SMINE

Were does the time go...

Well another week bites the dust, which means the weekend is almost upon us. Time as per usual, is flying by, so dont stand still what ever you do. The year will be gone if you do.

The AFL semi finals this weekend, "Carn the Might Blues", Carlton over here in Perth playing against the West Coast Eagles, in Alice Springs its the NTFL Football Grand Final and yet anither MIGHTY BLues team is playing for a flag, Go ROVERS. Two weekends to go and the Sunday amateur season ends. Am I happy about it...yes and no..mixed feelings, the body is feeling it more and more, but the head and the heart says, "do it, keep going" and I do enjoy it. As some one once said to me . "We are a long time dead". Two weeks after the season finishes here in WA, I will be heading to Adelaide for a week to play in the Australasian Masters Games. Definitely a glutton for punishment, yeah. Will have a surprises for a few when I post some pictures on the site of the games.

The next round of the State Premier League Finals begins on Saturday. Two more keepers wearing WarbyGK gloves are in two of these finals. Inglewood Utd FC Keeper Ollie Taseski wearing the new Optimum Gold, playing against Sorrento and on Sunday Lewis Italiano, both Balcatta and soon to be Perth Glory Youth Team shot stopper, wearing either Superior Aqua's or, again the new, Optimum Negative, depends on his mood..ha ha. Lewis will also be sporting a new look GK Kit with the WarbyGK logo on it.

New Seasons GK Tops, Lewis Italiano will be wearing the Black/white S/Sleeve on Sunday in the Semi Final and I will have the White/Black on in Adelaide for the Masters Games.... Wonder what the rest of the team will be wearing..hmmmm, Stay tuned. :)

Off to sunny Alice Springs today, my old home town. An old school mate is turning 50 this weekend, so its a good excuse to get up there. Dont worry its not all about having fun. Will also catch up with Mark Wakling, the GK and Football Development Coach for the Northern Territory. Mark is also the contact for any keepers up in the NT who require WarbyGK Gloves. He has a team heading south next month from the Territory playing in the National Schoolboys Championships in NSW. Guess what kind of gloves the keeper will be wearing???? Yup WarbyGK Gigas. Gotta love that. It means that there will be 5 state reprensentative keepers all wearing WarbyGK gloves in that competition from the Territory, WA, Qld and SA. Asses Decide React.

Well its time to finish this off...my three kids are wanting to have some time with me before I jump on the plane and head north.

Have a great weekend everyone and to all keepers out there this weekend, SAFE HANDS and CLEAN SHEETS :)

Well, its time to start again

Hi everyone, wont ask if you missed me, because its not all about me...hahaha. Its about lifes ups and downs for all of us. But seeing that your asking, I will tell you a bit about the the ups and downs of SMINE Products over the past month and we can all have a laugh, or cry..your choice.

The last time I posted a blog, I mentioned about my time in Jakarta and a rather expensive phone bill. Well, commonsense has prevailed and it was all wiped clean...Whewww..well almost. But it was huge relief to know that there is someone out there who can help and does listen. Thank you to the TIO. Wont go into to much detail and can only say to others, check and double check the information given to you before you venture overseas with a phone and what your plan does cover. Always assume that once your out of the country. It is not covered by your Australian plan. Long and the short, $250 monthly bills are much better than a $30K 3 day bill..On the funny side (now its funny)... My phone had been cut off and my kids, being back in Australia, got the text messages telling them the amount of the bill before theirs where shut donw too. My kids thought it was them and you can imagine the state they were in for a day or two.

Apart from telephone bills, my whole communications system broke down. No internet, no phone no nothing for a good three weeks and it you ever been without a phone for a period if time, you'll know what its like. Scary that we have come to rely so heavily on electronics to get through our daily lives. Sad, but true. Anyway, back on the communication band wagon now and catching with lost orders, invoices and of course, really ticked off clients. Who thought I had done a runner. Not so, apologies to all. The wheels on the bus are going round and round again.. not pair shaped.

Now for the good news..

One of the WA Premier State League Keepers, has been signed to play for the Perth Glory Youth team in the forthcoming A League season. Great news for Lewis Italiano and all his family and supporters. Also great news for WarbyGK and SMINE Products as Lewis wears both WarbyGK gloves and clothing supplied by SMINE Products. Apart from Lewis, I have also been informed today, that the Gold Coast FC Youth GK, Tim Anderson, is also a proud wearer of WarbyGK Gloves. (Pic soon to follow)

But wait there is more.... Milan Egic, a Queensland boy and another proud wearer of WarbyGK gloves, has just been selected as the Australian U13 GK. (By the way... he wears a pair of Size 10 gloves)

Congratulations Lewis, Tim and Milan. Safe hands boys.

We cannot mention WarbyGK Gloves and not mention Aleks Vrteski, still the #1 WarbyGK glove wearer in the southern hemisphere. He is back in Indonesia with a new season about to start. He was torn between the choice of two gloves.. The Superior Pro Mega's which he has worn for the past 12 months, or the new Optimum Pro Giga Negativo. he chose BOTH. His will be arriving just intime for his season to start.

As its a day for all thing new... heres a pic of the new tees for the summer and for the GK's still in training who want a warm up shirt. For those with a colour probem. The new colours are, Royal Blue, Purple, Orange and Lemon Yellow. I got mine on now

Well the weekend is near I have done my FF's for the day. Stay safe this weekend catch up with you soon ...

Ohhh one more thing... THE NEW GLOVES ARE HERE... come and get em' !

Be very careful...

Hi All . yep, back from sunny, dry and warm Indonesia, to, not so sunny, definately not dry and very definately not so warm Perth. But hey you get that, its winter.

When I say be careful I mean be really, really careful. As most of you know I spent the last week in Indonesia visiting Aleks Vrteski, WarbyGK/SMINE Products endorsee and Solo FC Goalkeeper.

Obviously, I still need to keep in touch with people in Australia and be contactable. So off I headed overseas believing that I had done all the right things, so I could use my phone. WRONG.

Three weeks ago, I went into my phone dealer and upgraded my plan to include internet access, so that I could use my iphone as the modem for my laptop. Was all done and sorted within 15 minutes. I had been given unlimited social networking and 3 gig of downloads. I was never going to use all that, but I took it anyway. As I walked out the door my last question to the guy in the store was, " So I dont have to buy another simcard or use the Hotels WIFI to connect to my laptop and answer and send emails, while I am away" ?... "No", was the reply it all done. "Just dont answer to many phone calls, as it will be expensive."

For the past two weeks prior to going away, I have been using my phone as the modem for my laptop and using the internet service 24/7. Every once in a while checking to see how much data I have used or donwloaded. Absolutley, nothing to worry about

I am in Indonesia, using my iphone on my laptop, exactly as I would have done here. I had two very important calls come through from clients I had to talk to, so I answered the calls and kept them very very brief.

I left Perth on Monday. On Thursday, I am about to board the plane to fly back from Solo to Jakarta. Aleks and I had tickets to the World Cup Qualifiyer between Indonesia and Termekistan. I look at my phone and noticed in came up with "no signal". Ok I thought, the service must have dropped out for a bit. I turned my phone off and jumped on the plane.

When I got off the plane at Jakarta airport I went to turn my phone back on. Still no signal, which I though was a bit weird. I left it on, thinking it would come back online sooner or later. I waited at the airport for over an hour and a half. Aleks still hadn't turned up. I thought there was a good reason for it, so wasnt to concerned at that point. My phone still didnt have signal, which by now was starting to worry me. I looked at the time again, it was getting on a bit, knowing that we had to be at a cetain place at a certain time.

I was really starting to get worrid now, so I went over to a phone stand and purchased a Indoesian sim card. Put in to my phone. Nothing worked. I then realized ny phone was locked onto my carrier and no one elses card would work unless I had it unlocked. Bugger. Looked at the time again. Still no Aleks and it was getting on to 3.30.

Knowing that Aleks knew the name of the hotel and that I had already booked it for both of us, I decide to get into a cab and head off to the hotel as it was a good hour and 20 minute ride. Possibly longer if the peak hour traiffic decided to start early.

Back the hotel, I checked in, went up stairs to unpack, came downstairs. There was Aleks at the counter. His plane had been delayed and as my phone wasnt in serive he couldnt contact me. We decided to see if I could piggy back on his service, as it was local. It worked, and my phone came alive with messages and missed calls. One of the messages was from my son. "Dad, call me urgently". Which I couldn't do, as I could only use the internet data on Aleks phone. So I sent him a message through Viber. ( great app for iphones). He came staright back to me a message saying that my phone carrier had put a block on all of our phones, with the message saying that I had exceed my cap.

I was a bit concerend, as I had not received this message and I still haven't. How much had I exceed the cap you ask...Well, I asked the same question and got an answer straight back from my boy. $300000. yup...thats right $30k. I was stunned , shocked and about to exploded. Which is an amazing sight I can assure you. It works out to be $10k per day. Someone at the phone carrier thought it was a bit strange that I had an unusually high usage after 3 days. To my mind. Alarm bells should have started ringing after the bill hit the $2k or $3k mark...even $500, as my usualy bill for a month is only $250.

Anyway, I am back in Australia now and have had three conversations with the phone carrier. The Ombudsman has now been called in to help sort this out aswell. It appears that my plan along with most plans here in Australia are not valid outside this country, especailly when it invloves internet data and roaming. Misinformation is the biggest player in this. I am not a compter whiz, but I am no dummy either and under no circumstances would I have done this knowingly. I asked my guy at the shop, could I use this plan overseas, he said yes and even showed me how to activate it the money I landed in Indonesia

What ever you do, check and then double check with your carrier about your phones and internet requirements before you leave.
